Caring For Your Pet

Here are some helpful hints for being a great pet owner:

Make sure to follow the rules that apply to animals where you live.

  •  Licensing requirements
  •  Leash laws
  •  Keep your pets properly vaccinated, especially against rabies

Make sure your new pet is treated with proper and humane care, always making sure there is food, fresh clean water, shelter from the elements (rain, heat and cold), bedding, exercise and most of all, your love and protection.

Your pet should have an annual visit with your veterinarian to maintain vaccinations, dental care, and their overall health.  If your animal becomes ill or injured make sure you seek medical help from a veterinarian as soon as possible. Keep a file of your pets veterinary records handy in the event of an pet emergency or a natural disaster; please visit our Emergency Preparedness for Your Pet section for additional information on preparing for emergencies.

Animals are like family, they depend on you for care and companionship. Animals should not be used for fighting, experimentation, or any other unethical use. We hope you agree.

If you have other pets at home already, make sure to get them spayed or neutered to help reduce animal overpopulation, it is also a good decision for a variety of health reasons. We can provide you with local resources.
