Volunteers play a very important role at Tulare County Animal Services.

Not only do they share our love of animals, they assist our staff with the care, comfort, and promotion of the animals we have for adoption.

As of February 2020, we are currently revamping our volunteer program, and anticipate starting up again strong in April. However, there are things you can do now to help!

Right now our biggest need is for volunteers to help with cats and kittens at the PetSmart in Visalia and Porterville. This involves cleaning cages and making sure there is food & water, as well as playing with the kitties! We have morning shifts (between 8-10am) and afternoon/evening shifts (between 4-6pm). The work should only take an hour, but you are welcome to spend more time with the friendly felines!  If interested please contact us ASAP at 636-4050 and fill out a Volunteer Application.

There are additional things you can currently do, such as:

  • Promote animal adoptions
  • Educate the public about animal welfare and encourage responsible pet ownership (such as spay/neuter, ID/microchips, vaccinations, licensing)
  • Help at special events
  • Assist in transporting animals to rescue groups
  • Raise funds
  • Interact/socialize with animals (as a private individual, whenever the shelter is open)

TCAS volunteer minimum requirements:

  • Must love animals!
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must complete a volunteer application and then attend orientation and safety training
